Tour de Suisse 2023 – Stage 8

The last time trial.

Route

Flat first 17 km, then we have a climb which consists of 5.3 km at 4.3%. That is the total length of the climb, with the first 1.9 km at 7.8%.

Weather

A warm day. The wind will get calmer throughout the afternoon but it will not be much.

Contenders

Evenepoel – decided to attack today… A beautiful win but waste of energy if you ask me. He is good enough to recover and should still be challenging for the stage win. Is he good enough to take the overall win too? I am not certain.

Wout van Aert – I think he will go well tomorrow, it is a good time trial for him. He often goes better over longer courses. A top-3 is for certain.

Skjelmose – he is not in his own skinsuit as far as I know and that is a negative thing. Still, he is good enough to challenge for a top-5.

Ayuso – he sat up today? So either saving legs or just not looking very good. It was an odd way he fell off but at the same time, he did not need to race at all. I think he rode it smartly. He will look to take the jersey off Skjelmose and it will be close.

Bissegger – the hill is not ideal for him at all. I think we will see him in the top-10.

Asgreen – it still feels like he is not at that level where he can challenge for the win here. A top-10.

Sobrero – he likes a hilly time trial. I hope to see him fight for a top-10.

SKA – no breakaways for him this week. Alpecin-Fenix do not have the best gear but not the worst either. A top-10 for the Dane, he really needs a result.

Schachmann – he is looking better and better and is not half-bad against the clock.

Kelderman – he will be one of the GC men hoping to put in a good result.
