Giro d’Italia 2023 – Stage 20 (ITT)
It is time for the mountain time trial. It is a very fun looking TT to watch.
Route
Covered in forest this area. 11.3 km of flat, then 7.3 km at 11.8%.
The climb.
This is the last climb. The asphalt (if we can call it that) is not very good. It is 4.75 km at 15.2%. It makes the muros in Spain look like speedbumps!
I assume we see bike changes, everything else would be very odd.
Weather
Should be more or less the same for all riders.
Contenders
Thomas – I think he will keep the jersey. He is looking mighty strong. G flew under the radar for a long time just to prove he is still world class. He will finish on the podium.
Roglic – looking to be the second strongest here overall. I hope he finds some redemption in an uphill time trial. Tomorrow sure suits him.
Almeida – I think the tactical approach of yoyoing hurts him on mountain stages, but as a tactic for the time trial tomorrow. He will leave everything on the road. Expect a staller performance.
Vine – missing today. I think he has been saving himself. I expect him to be the one challenging the riders in the top 3.
Dunbar – will lose time on the flat. It will be tough defending 5th overall but not unmanageable.
Caruso – he improved as expected. He will likely succeed defending 4th overall.
Van Wilder – a top 10 is the spot I think he can achieve.
Arensman – he will be challenging for the podium tomorrow. Another rider who has improved massively the last three weeks.
Kämna – time to attack for 5th overall. That seems difficult but he should challenge for a top 10.
Pinot – last week in a GT is usually when he would start to fade, tomorrow, he will challenge for 5th overall.
Who will win?
I will take a stage win for Roglic but he won’t take pink.
